OK. We’ve all had a week to rest up from the holidays and to get adapted to 2013. Now it’s time to start moving. I’m not necessarily talking about moving as in exercise (although that is applicable), but just moving forward. Moving forward with the goals you had toyed with in your mind but didn’t share with anyone. Or maybe you shouted them from the rooftops, but haven’t been able to build up any momentum as of yet.
Did you know that only about 12% of people who make New Year’s resolutions keep them? I’m not so big on resolutions as I am on goals–nice, measurable, realistic, strategic goals. Goals that you know whether or not you have reached them (measurable; think checklists). Goals that stretch you just a little but not so much that you cannot maintain them for more than a few days (realistic). Goals that you can build on–they start small, but you incrementally increase the challenge and within a year’s time you are routinely doing things you never thought possible (strategic).
On that note, watch the video below. I found it sweet and inspiring all at the same time. One of the greatest lessons I have learned in the past decade is the principle of “baby steps.” Little by little, I can change my life in huge ways. Small changes + Consistency + Perseverance = Changed Life.
